The Resonance received the following comments from the student body on the topic:
MODIFICATION TO THE SCHOOL UNIFORM
All comments shown below were compiled by the Student Initiatives and Student Welfare Committee (SISS) of the NUSHS Student Council from the Resonance Board. Any opinions or comments expressed therein are not representative of the views of the NUSHS Student Council or any of its members. 4 students agreed that the school logo should be ironed onto the school uniform
22 students suggested a change to the teal colour currently used for school culottes and pants, of which 2 suggested a darker shade of green or a different dark colour, 3 suggested black and 1 suggested adapting NUS colours or gray
1 student proposed a variety of uniform combinations to choose from on informal days, such as combinations of skirts, culottes, Bermudas, long pants, polo tees and formal tops
5 students submitted that the colour of the current school uniform is acceptable
10 students suggested that culottes should be changed to skirts on the basis that it gives girls the chance to respect attire etiquette and give them a more mature, feminine look. The students similarly suggested that skirts could be worn with the formal blouse on school formal days/occasions while the culottes could be worn with polo tees on other days.
4 students suggested that the formal top should be worn on all das without the tie as it would make students look less sloppy
1 student replied that the formal top should not be worn on all days
6 students commented that the current polo shirt is comfortable
3 students proposed that girls be allowed to wear long pants with the view of freedom of choice and protection from arid weather
6 students said that badges should still be pinned on as it makes the school uniform look smart
1 student submitted that the guys are satisfied with Bermudas and long pants
1 student requested that girls be allowed to tuck out their uniform even after the modifications
1 student suggested that pin-on badges should be used only by student leaders
1 student commented that the flat badge from the Year of 2005 should have been retained, as contrasted to the beveled badge used currently
1 student commented that the badge design from the Year of 2005 prevented the badge from shifting and becoming slanted because the metal ringlet that holds the pin to the badge has decreased in length over the years
2 students requested that there be a larger school logo on the polo shirt to ensure its recognition as a school uniform
4 students requested a school jacket
4 students suggested that design of the school tie should be modified to have one main logo instead of a patterned logo design. 1 student elaborated on a plain gray design with dark gray school logo centered near the bottom of the tie, that it be made wider and less prone to loose threads.

1 student proposed that Year 5 and 6 students be allowed to wear civilian attire to school
1 student suggested that all guys should wear long pants everyday
1 student submitted that it be made compulsory for all male students in and above Year 3 to wear long pants everyday
1 student requested that there be more choices on design and colour for the school uniform such that the school will look more colourful
1 student commented that the cutting of the pants was bad
3 students requested that the Bermudas be made longer
9 students requested that dry-fit material be used for the polo shirt
7 students submitted that the quality of the school uniform material should be improved such that it does not wear out so quickly
1 student proposed that polo shirts have more vibrant colours and designs
1 student suggested that designs be added to the back of the polo shirt
1 student proposed that the 2 bottom side pockets on the Bermudas be removed
1 student suggested that the colour of the polo shirt be changed to pink with black stripes
1 student commented that the pocket on the side of the girls’ polo shirt should be removed as it is useless and frivolous
1 student commented that the polo shirt is too transparent
3 students found that the cutting of the culottes was too high and made daily wear uncomfortable
2 students requested that the culottes be made shorter
1 student requested that the culottes be made longer
1 student suggested that the formal attire could be made more formal
2 students suggested that the formal blouse be made darker as it is currently too transparent
3 students commented that the collar for the formal blouse is too high and the neck cutting is too small
1 student requested that belt straps be added to the long pants
1 student suggested that the culottes cutting have smaller holes as it is currently too revealing
1 student commented that the formal shirt retains too much sweat
1 student commented that the formal shirt pocket is weird and looks ugly when used
2 students requested that drawstrings be attached to the blouse so that it looks neater
1 student suggested that bowknots be used in place of ties for girls
1 student suggested that the formal blouse may be tucked in after the length and measurements are adjusted
1 student commented that the school logo should not be printed on the top back of the PE shorts and top
5 students commented that the PE attire had too striking colours and was ugly
1 student suggested that the girls’ cutting of PE tops be longer
1 student proposed that the PE attire be revamped
1 student suggested that the crew-neck PE top be removed or tailored as the current cutting is awkward
4 students commented that the PE shorts are too short
2 students requested that the PE singlets be reintroduced
1 student commented that the PE shorts were too FBT style-like
1 student commented that the PE shorts are tight at the waist but flared at the bottom
1 student commented “Most importantly the uniform colour should be changed, because currently it looks very dull and dirty. This change might affect the overall school colour, but I think it’s ok at the moment since we're still a new school. Colours proposed: Beige colour, khaki colour, a colour which doesn't look dirty. Yr 5s and 6s should have a slightly different style to distinguish seniors and juniors. We should wear formal daily (without tie except on wed), so it'll look neater and not so sloppy, especially for guys.”
